Build your chore chart

How it works

Pick an age, and the builder suggests chores from our chores by age list. Keep, remove or rename any of them, choose which days each chore happens, and add a reward if you use one. Download a PDF to put on the fridge.

Tips for a chart that lasts

Start small: three to five chores is plenty. Show how each chore is done the first few times, then step back. Check off together at the same time each day. Change the chart every few months as your child grows.

Chores and allowance

Some families link chores to money, others keep them separate as "everyone helps at home". Either works. If you do pay, the allowance calculator helps you pick a weekly amount.

Frequently asked questions

How many chores should a child have?

For younger children, two or three daily chores are plenty. Older kids can handle more, including some weekly jobs.

Should kids get paid for chores?

It is a family choice. Some parents pay for extra jobs only and expect everyday chores without pay. The important part is being consistent.

Can I make a chart for more than one child?

Yes. Make one chart per child, each with their own chores.
